Phil Coulter

Phil Coulter has had a distinguished career in Irish music as a composer, producer and performer. He started his career as a writer of pop songs and had hits with Puppet on a String and Congratulations. But he is better remembered as a composer of such Irish classic songs as The Town I Loved So Well, The Old Man, Scorn Not His Simplicity and Steal Away. As a producer, Phil Coulter produced albums for Planxty, The Dubliners, The Fureys, Sinead O’Connor and Van Morrison. But his greatest fame came as a pianist when he recorded a series of Tranquility albums. With these albums he brought a touch of class and dignity to many popular Irish ballads. He has collaborated with flutist James Galway on two albums - Legends and Winter’s Crossing.
