Sharon Shannon
Sharon Shannon is the most famous accordion player in Ireland, and certainly one of the best (one must acknowledge Jackie Daly among others). What Sharon brings to her instrument is her willingness to draw on the modern influences to which she has been exposed. She played with The Waterboys and recorded Room to Roam. Her music reflects Rock, Cajun, Scottish and French Canadian influences. Sharon was chosen as the only instrumentalist to appear on the famous A Woman’s Heart collection. Recent albums find her recording with her band, The Woodchoppers - using vocalists like Jackson Browne, John Prine and Dessie O’Halloran to enrich her sound. Just to show she hasn’t lost her “trad chops”, Sharon recently recorded Tunes with Frankie Gavin (fiddle) and Michael McGoldrick (flute).
